Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.
Fans can expect learning which players will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
